Christmas night in the Big Apple glittered and sparkled beyond expectations! The tree in Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Times Square, Broadway, three story snowflakes danced on the 5th Ave. side of Saks while the windows showcased the latest in style and splendor, nuts warm and roasted, Radio City Music Hall, the window to Today, Will Smith and Jim Carey stories tall on digital billboards, reports from the Middle East scrolled on a news board at NBC, a yellow sea of taxis, a dusting of snow, and the perfect Italian restaurant. My romantic dream had come true and my family played along.
We plodded along like ducks in a row, brushing against strangers in a sea of people who should have been home in familiar living rooms eating pie while opening presents from beneath a humble tree. Instead, they came from around the world to this one small island and found something in common. Awe inspiring, breathtaking, unbelievability, blended to overwhelm logic, and we didn't mind being in this strange and crowded place on a chilly Christmas evening. The days that followed will never be forgotten.
We walked where so many others have stepped. NYC, the backdrop for classic movies, pictures in Time magazine, World News, the Today show, and the inspiration for music, art, dance, and theater. World cultures share this island within isolated inner islands. Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo, Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Greenwich Village, Hell's Kitchen, Wall Street, and more. One neighborhood blended into the next with the edges defined and the smells, tastes, and sounds commingled.
